For Key Articles on a Topic/In a Field
- start at Web of Science
- do a search for your Topic; sort results by Times Cited - Highest to lowest
- follow the "Times cited" link to see other papers in WOS that cite the article
- see Refining categories at left - make sure you refine to only "Articles" for research papers
- refine by "Authors" to see researchers who are working heavily in an area
- consult the "Cited References" of the article for the full bibliography
- consult as supplements:
- Geography & Environmental Sciences @ ProQuest
- GEOBASE
- These two databases do not allow for full citation tracking, but do have excellent coverage in the area of Geography and Environmental Studies
- for a deeper literature review, search for a dissertation in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database
- Also consult Omni and do an Advanced search looking for books under specific subject headings; you'll get fewer, more relevant titles
